In the most recent round of games in the Champions League, Messi leads headlines after scoring a hat-trick in Barcelona’s game against Manchester City. Red cards were plentiful in this game as both teams each received one. In the 53rd minute Manchester City goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, came out of the keeper’s box to clear a loose ball, but a bad touch resulted in Barcelona’s Striker, Luis Suarez, in possession. Suarez took the shot but in a move mirroring Diego Maradona, Bravo, still outside the keeper’s box, put his hands up to block and succeeded in doing so. The result was a red card for Bravo and wasted substitution for his team. Up until the 73rd minute, it was a 11 vs. 10 man match when a bad challenge by Barcelona defender, Jeremy Mathieu, resulted in his second yellow card of the match causing his removal from the pitch. Good play and footwork on Barcelona’s side and a goal from Neymar in 89th minute, assisted by Messi, the Spanish Powerhouse triumphed over the English Giants. The score would have been 5-0 if not for a missed penalty by Neymar.
